Sometimes the simplest hair routines turn out to be the hardest ones. This applies to hair washing as well. We have already told you how to wash hair properly, now it comes to the choice of shampoo. How can you choose the best shampoo that will suit your hair needs? Keep on reading and find it out!
First of all, determine your hair type. It’s the essential thing when it comes to choosing the right shampoo. In most cases, hair type can be determined by a skin type.
If your hair is elastic, it has the same density, it shines in the sun, and doesn’t become greasy up to 3-5 days, it belongs to the normal type.
If your hair is dull and brittle and it doesn’t become greasy for more than 5 days, it belongs to the dry type.
If your hair requires washing more than 1 time in 3 days and becomes greasy pretty fast, it belongs to the oily type.
Shampoo for normal hair contains a medium amount of detergents. It cleanses hair without interfering with the natural production of sebum. Shampoos for normal hair should be pretty soft in terms of their action.
Shampoos for dry hair are low in detergents and also contain a lot of fatty additives and moisturizers. These products usually have lanolin or lecithin in their composition. Besides, they contain synthetic ingredients that make the hair sleek and smooth.
Detergents for oily hair contain a minimum of nutrients, they don’t contain any fatty additives at all. What’s more, such shampoos often have antimicrobial agents and tannins in their composition. They are added to the shampoo to normalize oil production and prevent hair from sticking together immediately after washing. This is achieved by adding special components (including extracts of the corresponding medicinal plants: coltsfoot, chamomile, nettle, birch, sage, horsetail, willow bark, etc.).
If you have dry hair, choose shampoos without sulfates. A good shampoo shouldn’t contain SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulfate) and SLES (Sodium Laureth Sulfate). Instead of sulfates, which make the foam, the sulfate-free shampoo contains natural ingredients. That’s why it cleans your scalp and hair more gently than the regular one and doesn’t wash away too much sebum. Besides, micellar shampoos are very popular nowadays for their soft action.
