Halloween is one of the most popular autumn holidays in Spain, which both adults and children look forward to. The Spanish call Halloween "Witch's Night" or "The Night Before Memorial Day" (Noche de Brujas, Noche de Víspera de Difuntos).  The name of the holiday comes from the Scottish word Allhallow-even - "All Saints' Eve".  Following the Anglo-Saxon tradition, it’s celebrated on the night of October 31st to November 1st.

It’s believed that during Halloween you can talk with the souls of the dead. The tradition of remembering the dead is of ancient origin and is associated with the Celtic holiday of Samhain, which is still celebrated in Galicia, and the fiesta of El Magosto, which has been preserved in Cantabria, Asturias, Leon, Zamora, Salamanca, Cáceres and the Canary Islands.

This holiday is lively and interesting in Asturias. According to a tradition dating back to the 18th century, on the night before All Saints' Day, children walk the streets with lanterns and ask for treats or money. Such processions are accompanied by folk songs and dances.  Special costumes are prepared for the holiday as well!
